The launch-week question

Do cheats disable trophies in GTA 6?

Yes — for the session you used them in. In GTA V, entering any cheat blocked achievement and trophy unlocks until you reloaded a save. Expect the same rule in GTA 6, and assume it is per-session rather than permanent.

This is the detail that ruins completion runs every launch: people test a code, forget, then spend an hour wondering why a mission trophy never popped.

How the block actually works

GTA V does not permanently flag your account. It sets a session-level flag: while any cheat has been entered in the current session, the game withholds trophy and achievement grants. Reload a save or restart the game and the flag clears.

The consequences are practical rather than punitive. You can play with god mode on for an afternoon, then reload and go trophy hunting — nothing is lost except the progress you did not save.

What to do instead

  • Two saves. One for messing around with codes, one clean save for trophies.
  • Do the cheat run first. Enjoy the chaos, then start the completion run fresh.
  • Reload before a mission. If a trophy is tied to a specific mission, load a clean save before starting it.
  • Do not save over the clean file. Obvious, and still the most common way people lose a run.

Does it affect your save file?

Not in the sense of corrupting anything — the game does not sabotage your save. But GTA V warned that saving with an active cheat was not recommended, and autosaves taken during a session with cheats stayed locked for trophies. That is the trap: you reload to clear the block, but the autosave is the file that loaded.

The fix is mechanical rather than clever. Manual save into a clean slot before you start, and turn autosave off while you are playing with codes.

The one case where it matters more

Time-limited or one-shot content — a mission you cannot replay, an event that only triggers once. If a trophy is attached to something you can only do once, do it clean. Everything else is recoverable.

Safe play, in one card

  • Codes work in story mode only.
  • Any active cheat withholds trophies for that session.
  • Reloading a save clears the block.
  • Keep a clean save you never overwrite.

Online is different

In GTA Online, third-party tools are not “cheats” — they are a ban. Rockstar’s policy is account suspension and progress reset, not a withheld trophy.

Trophies — quick answers

Do cheats permanently disable trophies?

No. In GTA V the block applied to the current session and cleared when you reloaded a save or restarted the game. Your trophy list is not permanently flagged.

Do I lose trophies I already earned?

No. Trophies already on your account stay there. The block only affects unlocks that would have happened while a cheat was active.

Does reloading always clear the block?

In GTA V, yes — reloading any save cleared it. If GTA 6 tracks it per-save instead, the fix is the same: load a save that never had a cheat applied.

What about mission-specific trophies?

Those are the ones most likely to be missed, because you cannot replay a mission with a cheat active and still qualify. Do cheated runs first, clean runs second.

Does using a cheat affect my save file?

In GTA V the game warned that saving with an active cheat was not recommended, and an autosave taken while a cheat was active kept the trophy lock on that save. Assume the same in GTA 6: save manually to a clean slot before you start, and do not let an autosave overwrite a completion run while a code is active.
